Outtakes!

I have been very bad with money this month. VERY bad. I don't even remember what I spent it on. Cheap beer and hookers? Probably just groceries. I'm going to be short $50 this month on rent. WAT? Who does that? Did I really need those extra trips to McDonald's? Oh well. I'm listing new things right now on EBAY and maybe this will be the week that I actually sell more than I don't sell. Our first week we sold 8 out of 20 and this week we sold 7. We don't have much feedback. I know this. But still. The things I felt for certain would sell didn't and random strange things did. Here's to hoping.

I thought it would be funny to start posting the outtakes from our "photo shoots". I checked with my roommate and she said she is OK with that. They're more funny than embarrassing. I deleted all the ugly ones and kept these two because I think they are funny.

Will have 10 new items up within the hour and 10 from last week. Come on EBAY. Pay my rent!

Oh and here's a picture of me for good measure. I ignored everyone's advice and chopped off my bangs yesterday. I only hate them in pictures. In real life I actually like them. I think they need to be rounded up and not rounded down on the corners but I think they'll grow out nicer this way. And the way my hair grows, they will be down to my eyebrows in about 2 weeks!

Last Change to BID on AUCTIONS!

Photobucket

This week has been intense for me. My car broke down, my phone died, our heater went out and they dropped us randomly from our internet service???

We have sorted most of it out but I am exhausted.

Too exhausted to update with much. I'm trying to convince my model to do a fitting so that I can finish the three dresses I have yet to hem and then I'm going to have to bribe her to do a fashion shoot tonight. I'd love to tidy up a bit so that I can take pictures of the photo shoot process. I think that would be fun. We'll see.

She is writing her thesis and the thrifting process and the initial fitting process always seems like a good idea to her, but by the time I need a model, she is suddenly overwhelmed with work. I understand but when I try and model my own clothes I always chop off my head or make some awful face. Not to mention I don't have a vintage frame. I have the world's largest rib-cage and I can never get any of the tiny things to zip up. No amount of weight loss will ever fix that :(

Anyway. Please check out our auctions. Only a few more hours left to bid!
The waiting is so hard! I suppose it will just get easier though :)

Feel like a girl again.

I bought myself a new pair of heels today!!

Probably none of you know that for the last two and a half years I have suffered from rheumatoid arthritis in both my hands and feet and lately in my ankles and knees and wrists. It came on suddenly, uninvited and it never left. I had to sell all my heels and cute shoes because walking was so horrifying to me and I became the tennis shoe queen. Or actually I wore the same pair every day because it is very hard for a person with wide feet and no arch to find a good pair of tennis shoes these days when the soles of your feet feel like they are comprised of shards of glass :(

About six months ago, I decided enough was enough. I was tired of being sloppy and tomboyish. I am a really girly girl. I love dresses and bows and pretty things. I love skirts and tights and heels. I know my ex got tired of seeing me in the same old outfit. I gained a ton of weight because I instantly stopped being active and I could no longer fit into pretty clothes or feel confident in my new fatter body. Also comfortable shoes are usually ugly, frumpy and look terrible with a skirt.

Today I was out to lunch with my mom and we passed by a Clark's shoe store. I asked her if she would go in with me, just to see and I tried on every heel in that store. They are SO comfortable! They have sturdy heels that do not bore holes into your heel. They have beautiful insoles that feel like heaven. And they have this retro feel to them. AND THEY WERE ON SALE!

I know they are just shoes, but I cannot explain my happiness. I feel pretty. I feel girly. I feel like I will get noticed and compliments. I can wear party clothes again. I can go out on New Years dressed appropriately. I can have church shoes and date shoes. And they look like the perfect mix between those booties I cannot wear and those high heeled oxfords I cannot wear.

My hands and feet hurt so much on a daily basis but I've learned to push through it by wearing sensible shoes and not pushing myself too hard. I'm tired of people thinking I'm sloppy and not girly and that I am boring and tire easily. It's totally corny but these shoes give me hope. That I can have fun, be stylish, wear the clothes I sell in my shop, and be lovely and feminine. It's corny, but I'm extremely happy :)

Behold. My newest obsession! Clark's Wimberley Pump!!!

Please don't tell me to clean my mirror. I am at my mom's house and it is my teenage brother's mirror. It doesn't even look dirty until the flash hits it.

And here is what I wore to go shopping today. The entire outfit is thrifted except for the cardigan which is forever 21. Imagine how much cuter the outfit would look with these reddish brown heels!

More Buttons!!

So I just bought these from WistfulSupplies and I honestly cannot wait to get them in the mail!

As I previously mentioned, I received hundreds of vintage buttons the other day and already listed a few lots in my etsy, but I kept a few for myself! One of my favorite things to do with vintage buttons is to make rings out of them! Vintage buttons look so perfect as rings. You know you always want to touch pretty and unique buttons when you see them on garments, so what better way than to make them an ornament for your hand. And I have a lot of fun sorting them and arranging them and admiring them as I decide on the best way to pair them :) Buttons really are addicting and I don't have much time or patience for painting anymore so I think this will be a great creative release!

But now I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the gold ones :( Maybe next time.

Here are some rings I've made in the past. Some have already sold, but the rest can be found in my etsy shop!

i took pictures of my living/dining room last night.
my whole apartment is cluttered but these two spaces are the least cluttered.
we have piles of books that we are using for research. we have so many pairs of shoes and dresses and skirts and such that we are organizing and listing online and hoping will sell soon so that we can have our closets and living room back. i'm too tired to say anything witty or interesting. here are pictures of my downstairs.

my new favorite pair of shoes!!

The very first thing I ever look for when I go thrifting is shoes. I've always been this way. One of my first words was shoes. For my first birthday my mother gave me a cabbage patch doll and the first thing I said when I saw her was "shoes".

My whole life I've collected shoes and when I started selling my awesome finds online I realized that the things I am the most passionate about is shoes. Obviously I obsess over all types of vintage things but if we're completely honest, I'd just as soon have a store where I sell nothing but vintage shoes. I love selling on etsy because it gives me that excuse to run and grab something amazing when I see it. I don't even need to try it on anymore. I know I want it. I know I NEED it. Let's face it. Selling vintage clothing on etsy is code for "I've allowed myself to use no restraint when I go thrifting."

Granted my heart does always break a little once I get home and I in fact do NOT fit into a particularly amazing pair of shoes. But when someone else buys them, I feel better. MUCH better. Not only do I get to buy groceries and pay my bills but someone out there has fallen in love with the same pair of shoes I fell in love with weeks before and will get way more use out of them than I did with them sitting in a box in my etsy closet.

But today I might have found my favorite shoes yet! No I take that back. Because today was particularly lucky because I found my two favorite shoes yet. But I'm keeping one pair. It's not selfish when you only keep one pair out of the dozen you've thrifted in the last month :)

These are the ones I'm keeping. Amazing. No?

They are a size too big for me but really comfy nonetheless and look really cute with skinny jeans. Perhaps it is just the history nerd in me that thinks I need this pair of shoes that are too big for me. Perhaps I will just list them for one million billion dollars and that way if no one buys them I can keep them and if not, hey, I will have ONE MILLION BILLION DOLLARS!

And I recently cut my hair and took this picture at work to show my mom. Just in case you were wondering, this is what I look like sans victorian ghost make-up ;P

please forgive the camera phone quality.

and as usual, if you're interested in these shoes they are listed in my etsy store!

cute as a button.

My friend Patsy gave me an entire bag of vintage buttons as "payment" for listing some things online for her. There were hundreds of them all sorted out in colors in separate baby food jars. At first I thought I should keep them. ALL OF THEM. I love buttons and at first I really convinced myself that I needed every single one. But I talked some sense into my head and dumped out each baby food jar and took photos of them to list online. About twenty jars in all.

Until two nights ago when I decided I needed to go through each jar again and resort. I am so OCD. I am always reorganizing already organized things. each shelf in my room is designated for one single item. I have baskets with unimportant organizational duties. So buttons? I needed to resort and relabel them. I ended up with about forty different "lots". And I stole about fifteen that I could not bear to part with.

I'll slowly start listing them over the next few days. Since I got them for free and am only trying to make back what it cost me to list things lately, I'm selling them for really cheap. Buttons are wonderful things and can be used for anything your imagination can think up. Even can be used for keeping clothing closed and modest ;P

I've listed a few already but I'm so busy lately that I haven't had time to list them all. Also someone told me recently that it's not wise to post all of one thing in one day. To spread your listings out. So I'm trying that out for a while. I'll post some buttons one day. And then I'll post some skirts. Maybe a few more cardigans another. Eventually we'll get around to listing all forty lots of buttons. Hopefully this will get business back. It's been so slow this week. I've only sold one thing.

More buttons.

as usual. you can purchase these items at my etsy vintage store :)
